With 11 nominations, Beyoncé leads the way for the 2025 Grammy Awards with these nominations coming from her album Cowboy Carter and its singles. This achievement makes her the woman with the most nominations in a single year, breaking the record of 10 in one year set by Lauryn Hill for the 1999 awards and again in 2010 by Beyoncé. This is only one nomination short of the male record set at 12 by Michael Jackson and Babyface in 1984 and 1997, respectively. Not to mention, Beyoncé has the most Grammys won by a single person ever, currently set at 32.
Fans were shocked to learn that Jack Antonoff was not nominated for Producer of the Year after winning it the last four consecutive years and working on musical masterpieces this year such as Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department and Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet.
After being nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammys last year, but losing to Victoria Monét, Gracie Abrams has another chance. This year, she is nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Taylor Swift for their collaboration “us.” on Abrams’ album The Secret of Us.
Despite the fact that she has been releasing music for over 10 years, Sabrina Carpenter is a first-time Grammy nominee with six nominations for her album Short n’ Sweet and its singles “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.”
While the Grammys are not typically a place where artists announce new albums, Taylor Swift broke this trend last year by announcing her 11th Studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, from the stage in an acceptance speech for Best Pop Vocal Album, which she won for Midnights. Swift is no stranger to announcing albums at award shows as she announced her 12th studio album, Midnights, during the 2022 Video Music Awards (VMAs). Only time will tell if others follow Swift’s lead by making more album announcements from the stage this year.
This award season will be a contentious one within the pop music world given the sheer quantity of music released. We have Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish, Gracie Abrams, Charlie xcx, and more. Even Chappell Roan’s album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, falls into this award season because despite being released in 2023, it falls in the 2025 eligibility period of September 16, 2023, through August 30, 2024. The exact dates of these eligibility periods change every year, hence why it is not an exact calendar year.
Pop music fans should watch out for the Best Pop Vocal Album category because, regardless of who wins, it will be epic. In no particular order, the following artists and albums and nominated:
- Sabrina Carpenter-Short n’ Sweet
- Billie Eilish-Hit Me Hard and Soft
- Ariana Grande-Eternal Sunshine
- Chappell Roan-The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess
- Taylor Swift-The Tortured Poets Department
Best Pop Duo/Group Performance is equally stacked with the following nominations:
- “us.” by Gracie Abrams featuring Taylor Swift
- “LEVII’S JEANS” by Beyoncé featuring Post Malone
- “Guess” by Charli xcx and Billie Eilish
- “the boy is mine” by Ariana Grande, Brady, and Monica
- “Die With A Smile” by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars
