The 24 year-old music artist Maisie Peters from Steyning, England just finished her time opening for Conan Gray’s “Found Heaven on Tour” after being an additional opener for Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” on London, Night Seven.
After gaining a significant YouTube following in the early 2010s, Peters released her first two singles in 2017 entitled “Place We Were Made” and “Birthday”. This led to her signing to Atlantic Records UK in 2018. She released well over a dozen singles and a couple of EPs under this label before leaving in June 2021. Immediately following this exit, she joined Ed Sheeran’s record label, “Gingerbread Man Records,” where she released her first album You Signed Up For This in August 2021. This album succeeded on the UK chart as it peaked at number two.
Throughout 2022 and 2023 Peters opened for Ed Sheeran on his “+-= (Mathematics) Tour “during the European and Australian legs along with a handful of US and Canada shows. Simultaneously, in the summer of 2023, she released her second album The Good Witch. This album debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, and Peters took it on a North America tour in the fall of 2023 before opening for Noah Kahan on his European and UK leg of “The Stick Season (We’ll All Be Here Forever) Tour” in early 2024.
While she was already gaining popularity from opening for significant names and her own tour, her big breakthrough came when she was given the opportunity to be an additional opener for Taylor Swift on August 19, 2024, at Wembley Stadium for London Night Seven of the “Eras Tour.” While Paramore was opening for Swift throughout the European leg of the tour, Swift added an additional opener to each of the London shows with Peters being one of them. While Forbes rightfully calls this ability to mobilize the Taylor Swift fan base to support smaller artists “The Swift Effect”, this seemingly overnight success that Peters has achieved is actually a result of seven years of hard work.
At present, Peters just finished opening for Conan Gray’s “Found Heaven on Tour” (North America Leg) and is scheduled to open for Kelsea Ballerini’s tour happening in 2025. As an avid reader, Peters has connected with fans throughout “Found Heaven on Tour” by requesting bookstore suggestions on her Instagram stories in the city they are in and then leaving letters hidden in books.
Listeners of Peters’ music can expect many historical allusions and what Phoenix describes as a “hopeless romantic” vibe, but when they asked Peters about this she replied, “‘I feel like that’s more of something I explore musically. I also think the music that I love, that I grew up with, is quite romantic. You know I’m a big Taylor Swift fan – the Taylor Swift universe is the most romantic place in the whole world.'”
It is only fitting that she had the opportunity to open for Taylor Swift this summer and finally receive the credit she deserves. While it remains unknown when we may get new music from her given her busy tour schedule, the multitude of people Peters has opened for has exposed many different audiences to the lyrical masterpieces of her works.
