Reneé Mary Jane Rapp comes from a theater background, gaining her first recognition by winning Best Performance by an Actress at the Jimmy Awards in 2018, but at present, the 25-year-old is mostly known for her singing and involvement in “Mean Girls.”
After graduating high school, Reneé Rapp moved to New York, where she starred as Regina George in “Mean Girls” on Broadway from 2019 to 2020. The show shut down when COVID-19 hit, but it nevertheless fostered friendships while it lasted. They have not collaborated on any published music yet, but Sabrina Carpenter and Reneé Rapp are both singers and friends and can often be spotted taking photos together at award shows, with their friendship likely starting with their shared time in “Mean Girls together.
After Covid, Rapp transitioned her skills to the screen, starring as Leighton Murray in the first two seasons of “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” which premiered on HBO Max in 2021 and 2022 respectively. She followed this up with a return to “Mean Girls,” but this time for the screen. She was cast in the role of Regina George again for the 2024 musical-style film adaptation of the show, and she was a fan favorite for both her performance and the music featured in the show.
Simultaneously with her film career, Rapp began making music. She signed to Interscope Records in the summer of 2022, releasing her first single “Tattoos” followed by the release of her first Extended Play (EP) “Everything to Everyone,” that same fall. Since then, she released her debut album, “Snow Angel” in 2023. She occasionally teases the release of more music on her Instagram stories, but it has yet to materialize despite still being signed to Interscope Records.
In 2022, Rapp went on a short United States tour for her EP, calling it the “Everything to Everyone: The First Shows” tour. She followed this up in 2023 with the “Snow Hard Feelings” tour for her album. She is known for being a great performer, with a strong live voice and an ability to sing and move at the same time. This is commonly attributed to her time on Broadway and background in theater. In addition to touring, she has performed at several significant music festivals in 2024, including Coachella, Austin City Limits, and Lollapalooza.
Rapp is openly queer, identifying as a lesbian, and frequently standing up to voice issues regarding LGBTQIA+ community. She is dating musician Towa Bird, the pair debuted their relationship on the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party red carpet on March 10, 2024.
Overall, Renee Rapp is a very successful artist, who has seen success on Broadway, in films, and in music. While she has not yet revealed her current projects, it is safe to say that it will be spectacular to accompany her already impressive portfolio.
